Dominoes of a Plateau
Progress feels good because momentum feels good. When we start a journey we are often motivated to reach the goal. If the journey takes longer than expected we are in danger of becoming bored with the journey. When we get bored, our motivation decreases and then our discipline is likely to lapse. Without discipline our decision making becomes compromised and our progress slows. When progress slows the goal seems to be even farther away than when we first began. This is how a plateau is born. Progress slows because motivation is correlated with discipline and discipline is connected to decision making which directly effects our rate of progress.
