Managing Anger

Anger seems to be an emotion that many people fear, and for good reason. Unmanaged anger can result in outbursts that can bring both physical and emotional harm. I believe most people are not taught how to manage their anger because they mistakenly correlate the result of unmanaged anger with the actual emotion. Anger can be managed and therefore become useful as a contributing teammate. Anger can be dangerous because it’s a motivator. It causes us to stand up and do something. When out of control we may do something we shouldn’t. However, well managed anger may motivate us to do something we are likely too timid to do in another emotional state. Many effective people manage their anger so the question about whether anger can be managed is not a good one to ask. The better question is, do you believe that your anger can be managed safely to become a motivator?
