The past cannot be undone. It can be remembered and learned from. It can also be forgotten and ignored. The past has a special attribute that is distinct from our present and future… certainty. What has happened has definitely happened. There is valuable information in the past because of the certainty of it. We should not ignore it or dismiss it since it provides such a wealth of data about the consequences of our choices. Of course, the memory our consequences and the consequences of others can be too painful to want to revisit but when properly dealt with, the past can illuminate the path that connects our present with a desired future. For a team, this happens through regular and intentional evaluation.
