Fear can keep us safe but it can also hold us back. Progress isn’t always safe and those who hesitate to leave a place of safety are actually often more dangerous than the risks that terrify them. Fear is contagious and those who are not willing to take risks should not have influence on the decisions of the team. Growth is risky. Goals that challenge the status quo are scary. Fearful people are not looking for a reason to move, they are looking for reasons to stay still. This line of thinking can seem more reasonable than the vision. In a way, fearful thinking is anti-vision. It works against the team’s ability to move forward by coming up with all the reasons to do otherwise.
