School for Excuses

Those who chronically fall short have learned that it is acceptable to fall short. They have learned all about excuses and justifying compromises and disappointment. They have learned that people will understand what they were up against and that the reasonable response to their challenge was to disappoint the team because challenges are hard. They might have fewer resources than others. They may have had too steep of a learning curve. They may have failed to prepare and will try again at another opportunity. Someone else may have let them down and now the situation has become too difficult. Whatever it is, the deadline isn’t a motivator to push through but rather a place to consider if it is reasonable to settle for something less than is expected because they survived disappointment in the past.
