Political correctness has definitely carved its place into our culture. Positively, it helps us recognize our diversity and make adjustments in our interactions that are sensitive to the experience of others. Just like everything, PC is something that has a time an place. Anything taken too far can be unhealthy. Sensitivity is vital to making people feel accepted and welcome but it doesn’t have a place in the moment when correction and feedback needs to be given for the good of the team. It may be politically correct to not give the necessary feedback but it isn’t fundamentally sound to withhold feedback to spare feelings. This may seem like an obvious statement but our PC culture has trained a generation to withhold feedback in the spirit of acceptance. Great teams know when to apply political correctness and when to resist the urge to take it too far.
