Understanding the Burden

Teams that are fortunate enough to have a key player should treat that player a little differently because the spotlight and pressure is different than what other players may endure. I know many might think, “Oh…poor baby…it must be so difficult being so talented and influential!” Well, yes, it is. Some people do not understand what it means to have others depend so deeply on your ability and decisions. Non-key players may dream of being a key player but I doubt they dream of the pressure, unreasonable expectations, and effort that it takes to perform at such a high level. That is why key players should be treated differently, and by differently, I mean with understanding of the toll the burden of expectation can take on a human. I don’t mean pampering or pandering that makes the player a diva or rockstar. Key players are human and we should acknowledge that by not treating them otherwise.
