People are generally nice because they want to be liked by the most amount of people. This is completely normal but in a team dynamic, it can mean that decisions are made to try to please everyone. This is easy on a team that lacks diversity. This is nearly impossible to do on a large and diverse team. The Pleaser will still try to please everyone by making decisions in favor of those who complain. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. The problem is that the pendulum swings both ways and eventually the decision to please one group enrages another. The Pleaser will then have a conundrum. Who does he aim to please this time? Does he reverse his previous decision and appear inconsistent? Does he look for a compromise that really doesn’t please either group? Or does he finally choose to lead his diverse team towards what is best for all despite the fact that everyone doesn’t like it or him for it?
