Don’t be that desperate!

Training is not the context for convenience. If someone is not willing to be inconvenienced for the opportunity to learn to be a better contributor to the team, we have not led them or our team well. Training is such a vital aspect of moving a team forward that it must happen regardless of expected convenience. I am an advocate of setting a standard for testing how much a person wants to be on the team by creating some built-in inconvenient moments along the process of joining. Is my team so desperate for anyone to join that we make it too easy to join? Or is my team important enough to vet the the perceived value a candidate has on joining my team?
