Great teammates are not high maintenance. Think about how hard it is to please a high maintenance person. We all know them. I have learned that “high maintenance” is a way selfish people like to describe themselves to avoid using the word selfish. That may seem harsh but a self-described high maintenance person is well aware of their impact on others. They don’t feel the need to adjust but rather expect everyone else to highly maintain them. There is actually a subtle expectation of how others should treat them built into their chosen self-description. It is best to make this a deal-breaker for a teammate if they are not worth the effort of meeting those expectations.
