Do people earn trust?

Trust is something that should be directly connected to recruiting and time spent developing someone. There is a natural tendency to have someone earn trust. This is especially true of two factors:

1) The leader has baggage from the past that has caused them to learn to trust slowly or not at all. Past betrayals and disappointments can make a person justify a limited trust paradigm.

2) The leader has recruited an “unknown”.

The uncertainty of what a person is capable of will limit our willingness to trust early. Leaders or teammates that fall into either of these two categories will likely take a “wait and see” approach to trust someone new.
