The Allegory Birthed from Resentment
People like to disparage the boss because they like to take their shot at the position of authority. I believe that most people could identify a Michael Scott in their life. Someone they worked under that seemed to be as clueless as it gets. I also believe that in most of those cases, the leader or boss is not all that clueless. We paint that picture in our head as a way to deal with the resentment we carry for a decision that was made that we didn’t have the authority or influence to change. The only acceptable narrative is that the boss doesn’t get it like I get it. What if Michael Scott is funny because he is true… not because Michael Scott is real but because he matches the narrative we created out of our resentment for being led? What if he is a figment of our prideful imagination? Of course not…right?
