A High View of Self
Leaders sometimes struggle and refuse to delegate because they believe it’s just better if they do it themselves. What does it say about me that I think it is better to do a difficult task alone without the help of others? Am I saying that my singular effort and expertise are better than the cumulative effort and expertise of the team? Unfortunately, it does. Even if my teammates are not experts, there is no better time to develop them into experts than by having them learn from me on the job. Leaders that refuse to delegate not only betray a high view of self but also miss opportunities to empower others.
