The Protecting Mindset

Protecting the team from hard work or difficult tasks isn’t really doing them a favor. Asking so little of each individual puts pressure on the team to have more individuals to depend on. The protection mindset requires quantity over quality and decays a team’s efficiency and belief in what can be reasonably accomplished. Teams that are protected from difficult and “big asks” don’t ever believe something big and difficult is reasonable or possible. That team will never do anything that matters. The protected team will exist to protect itself from adversity and miss out on the growth that comes from overcoming big challenges.
