Discipline as Accountability

The word discipline has a few definitions. Someone can be disciplined when they workout every day. Someone may also be disciplined when they are in trouble. Perhaps that is why there is such an aversion to it. The connection between the two definitions is clear when we have a correct understanding of the outcome of “disciplining” someone. When someone is in trouble it is likely because they did not do what they were expected to do. Perhaps there have been multiple chances to improve. Different types of “being in trouble” really amounts to a jump start on a more disciplined path that will lead to the desired behavior.
