Spend and Give
If a person doesn’t have a generous heart, the transition to recruiting a team from lone-wolfing a project will be difficult. That is why I initially struggled with building a team. I didn’t want to give away much. I only wanted people that were already good enough when they joined so that I didn’t have to SPEND my time to develop them or clean up after their mistakes. I only wanted the most loyal people so that I didn’t have to GIVE away authority and decisions. In the end, what I wanted wasn’t a team but clones of myself to be able to accomplish the big ideas that were too much for me to accomplish on my own. I wasn’t generous because I didn’t want to share.
