The Vulnerability of Shared Responsibility

For a team to successfully share responsibility, each teammate must have a willingness to have each other’s backs. This can be difficult if there is any dysfunction in a team dynamic. If someone is holding a grudge, then it might be easier to watch a ball get dropped and let a teammate take the blame. We would never deliberately let a ball drop in our own area because we are to blame. A shared responsibility leaves a teammate vulnerable to subtle retribution by simply having the knowledge of a situation that could adversely affect a teammate’s reputation. Great teams do not play games and they make sure that each teammate has each other’s back when they are collaborating.
