Choose to Belong

Every teammate has to give up a little bit of autonomy when they join a team. They have to lay aside preferences so that the team can operate as a unit and not a group of opinionated individuals. Unity is not conformity but each individual will be faced with moments that will cause them to have to choose to belong. It may come in the way of an unfamiliar method or a non-preferred task. It may come in a moment where they have a choice to overcommunicate or leave something to chance. In any case, a teammate should never expect the same freedom they enjoyed outside of a team when they join a team because their actions, opinions, and methods impact others. Teams must create an accepting environment, but every teammate must choose to belong.
