Brevity is the enemy of characterization.
It takes time to get to know people. It’s important to properly onboard new teammates. Part of a proper on-boarding process are reasonable expectations for relationships. Teams are tight. It’s unreasonable for either the team or the newbie to expect to be as close as those that are currently on the team. Some teammates have worked together for years and their rapport and relationships cannot be replicated in a short time with the new person. It puts a lot of pressure on people to expect them to integrate into a team too quickly. In fact, when it does happen, it’s usually “surfacy”, fake or unhealthy. Relationships are best cooked in the crockpot and not the microwave.
