Great teams are consistent. They are not afraid of the grind. They are not afraid of the mundane tasks that get the job done. They are disciplined enough to stick with something after the fuzzy feelings of newness and novelty wear away. Ordinary teams get bored quickly and they are not disciplined enough in the less than fun tasks that effectiveness always requires. When a team pulls ahead of the rest it’s not because they are lucky. It’s because they didn’t allow boredom to distract them from the tasks necessary to cause that separation. Greatness requires consistency. Consistency requires discipline. Greatness comes when we have done what it takes to be great every day, regardless of how it feels.
