Water or Pill?
When I have a headache I usually suffer and complain until my wife asks me, “Did you take something?”. I almost always say no. I don’t like to take medication. The reality is, most of the time the water does more good for my headache than the pill does because my headache may be caused by dehydration. How often do we attribute our success to a false cause simply because conventional wisdom points us that direction? I try to ask myself if my analysis is deep enough. Am I merely confirming previously held belief or is my mind open to the improbable? One of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite characters helps me keep an open mind in the search for truth: “Once we have eliminated the impossible; whatever is left, no matter how improbable, must be true.” Let’s not make up our minds too quickly.
