Mental Mistakes: Overconfidence

I am more likely to make a mental mistake when I leave things to chance. Why would I do that? Most of the time it is an overconfidence that causes me to forget the effort required to be effective at a task. I cut corners because my past success in an area leads to an entitlement to the result. I have learned that arrogance and carelessness always correlate. They both lead to a path which causes mental mistakes that both shock and embarrass me back into a more disciplined course of action.
