When to Act
While procrastination is a good practice when keeping an open mind, it is irresponsible when used to buy time to not act. There are times that we don’t want to do something. Maybe we don’t know how to do that specific thing and feel we will be exposed. Perhaps we disagree with the direction of the team and our hesitation is really just a way to express a muted disapproval. When we procrastinate to find people who agree with us, we are not really seeking truth but rather a consensus to justify our inaction. Keeping an open mind must include being open to acting in the way we are hesitant to. When the truth and facts are in, it is our responsibly as a teammate to act regardless of how we feel about the action.
