Seeing Beyond Me

I am a great teammate when I understand that the team needs my contribution but doesn’t depend on me to move forward. The team is always bigger than its most valuable player. Sports has made the MVP an award that doesn’t really honor a team effort but celebrates the outstanding individual. The truth is that unless someone is playing golf or tennis, the MVP performance is dependent on the performance of the rest of the team. Today I am necessary to the success of the current team I am on. However, I must also understand that I am not necessary to the future of the team. Teammates always come and go but the team lives on without them because new teammates come along and replace them. The team may depend on me, but I am not the only reason for the team’s success.
