Coping with Change-Induced Anxiety
Change brings the unknown and the unknown often causes anxiety. Anxiety can wear a team down both physically and emotionally. The answer to anxiety is not a dismissal of communicated fears. Emotional and physical states are real and it never helps to diminish those very real feelings. The best way to help a team cope with change-induced anxiety is to provide experiences to help diminish the unknowns causing the fear. Training is a good way to boost your team’s confidence. Practice makes perfect but practice also allows people to gain some sort of insight into a reality that seems cloudy and therefore scary. If our team is anxious about a new direction, we have to be ready to train them through the unknowns.
