Sometimes optics do tell the truth. Things really are as bad as they look. When we blow it as a team, we should embrace and acknowledge that failure. To worry about the optics of a failure wastes the effort needed to right the wrong. Righting the wrong should never be making the wrong look ok. When we admit our mistakes, we build trust with those our team serves. The test to see if we care about righting a wrong happens when we care more about the harm our mistake did to others than the harm the mistake had on our reputation.
