The Necessary Overlap
Tensions are always going to happen on good teams. Teams that are too much alike may not have to deal with as many tense moments. A team that has a good mix of people with different perspectives and skills will bump into each other. Those differences combined with common passion will result in tense emotions if the team is any good. These moments are necessary. They demonstrate the overlap that great teams need to excel. Great teams are made up of individuals that are like-minded enough to work together but different enough where each person is appreciated. Tension is a signal pointing to what we should appreciate about our teammates’ differences. The necessary overlap is what makes a great team great.
