Pulling the Shade
Great teams have a culture that craves feedback. They look forward to shining a light on everything so that they can get better. Teams that do not enjoy a culture of feedback live in a shadow of speculation that allows for a less accurate but comfortable view of reality. It takes a leader to recognize when to pull the shade and let the light in. When that shade is pulled, expect a time of adjustment to the increased intensity of the light. Eyes need to adjust because brighter light is often painful to those that are not used to it. The complaining should subside as eyes adjust and the team experiences the benefit of honest feedback.
