Are there actually styles of leadership or is there simply leadership and everything else? We may be mistaking our chemistry with a leader’s personality with their ability to lead. A case could be made that a micromanager is not actually leading. Therefore, micromanaging is not a leadership style. In the same way people who prefer a “flat leadership style” might not actually enjoy being led. It sounds better to say that I don’t like someone’s leadership style than to say I don’t like being told what to do. Great teams understand leadership and the authority that is shared between the leader and the team.
