Anxiety From Fit, Not Tasks
When a teammate is overwhelmed, it’s not always because there is too much on their plate. I am a firm believer that teammates always rise to the mark set for them. If this is true, the source of anxiety could be the fit on a team. When I sense that something isn’t right, it isn’t always that something is morally wrong. It could be that I am sensing I have either outgrown my current position on the team or the team’s position has outgrown me. To realize this, we need to be capable of honest self-reflection. If I can’t honestly look at myself, I will likely find a reason that will fit a narrative which places little blame on me. This is why most people leave teams angry or on a bad note. It doesn’t have to be that way because there is likely a great team fit in another position on the current team or elsewhere.
