Stretching vs Breaking

Great leaders stretch their teammates to become better. There is, however, a difference between wanting someone to improve and wanting someone to be something they were never meant to be. Leaders have to watch that we never cross the line of breaking someone with pressure to change who they are. That kind of pressure never ends well for anyone involved. Leaders may even justify their agenda to change someone by saying they have that person’s best interest in mind… but that is what makes this method of leading selfish. It is never the responsibility of a leader to determine who someone should be, but to lead them to discover how their unique gifting, skill and talent can benefit the team.
