Success Paradox

The success paradox is experienced when the result of the goals that are achieved negatively affects the workload that a team is accustomed to.

Success can increase the demand for more success and raises the expectations on a team. The bar is set ever higher while workloads begin to creep higher to match the rising expectations. Over time the workload begins to strain the team as effort begins to get diminishing returns. It takes leadership and courage to recognize the need for a change. It’s a scary thing to abandon the ship that carried the team to success so that you can perpetuate it.
