Closing Emotional Distance

Emotion is something that makes us human. Teams experience so much together that they learn how to care for each other. The emotional distance that protects us from strangers who may judge us shrinks when we work long enough with someone to feel understood.

To hold someone close also means to go after them when they seem distant. Relationships on a team work best when they are not left to chance. In the heat of the moment or in the process of doing things people will bump into each other. Sensing emotional distance and running to close that widening gap not only communicates care but tells the person that they are worth it.
