Right Is Not Perfect

We must be intentional about who we bring onto a team. New teammates must fit the role that they are filling. They must be able to help the team in the short and long term in some way. It will always pay off to wait for the right person. However, waiting for the perfect fit may keep us waiting longer than a team can afford. Every person that can potentially join a team will need some form of development as a teammate despite their skill, talent, and expertise. New teammates will need to learn how to be on their new team. It is an unreasonable expectation to have someone completely new join and hit the ground running. We often wait for the perfect person because we have decided that the hard work of onboarding isn’t worth the benefit that new person may bring. Aren’t we grateful the team didn’t think that way about us when we were new?
