Close AND Inclusive

Great teams have a healthy and close dynamic. Each individual is known, accepted, and acknowledged as necessary to the team. Once we develop that healthy dynamic, we have to be careful to protect and cultivate it. If a team is too well protected, it becomes difficult to join. New people can be seen as a threat to team chemistry. This kind of change almost always sends “What does this mean for me?” thoughts through everyone’s head.

Team chemistry will ultimately change as new people bring new variables to the equation. That change must be welcomed or the new person will not be.

A great team becomes inclusive when it embraces new people by accepting who each person is while introducing them to the nuances of the team dynamic. Creating a welcoming environment must be intentional because current members forget what it’s like to be new to the team.
