Decisions Based on Fear

Decisions based on fear are inevitable. Fear is a terrible taskmaster because it reminds us of all our bad experiences and convinces us that the future is guaranteed to produce the same outcome. Teams that are driven by fear don’t actually end up driving anywhere. It’s natural and human to be fearful. It’s prudent to be cautious, but it’s ineffective to avoid all risk. Fearful decision makers can become dogmatic about avoiding aversive situations. Teams should mitigate known risks and not avoid them.
