The Micromanagement Line

Empowering people requires trusting others to operate within clearly defined boundaries. So long as the agreed upon desired result happens within the team’s operational values, the empowered people should be free to operate. Micromanagement happens when the boundaries are too narrow. “Do this the way I say to do this” is not empowering because there is no room for choice within the boundaries.
