Trust to Make Mistakes

Trust is dangerous. People that are trusted can make mistakes. Mistakes are unavoidable. It’s a mistake to withhold trust to avoid mistakes. Trust is best demonstrated after a mistake is made. If it’s a new mistake, then it’s an opportunity for learning. If it’s an old mistake, it’s a good opportunity to point out a pattern. If it’s a mistake that seems to be beyond remedy, then it’s grounds for some kind of transition. The point is that withholding trust to preempt mistakes is a mistake that holds back the development of those the leader is entrusted to develop.
