Usually when I am quick to abandon a commitment or discipline, it is because I never really wanted to commit to anything. I just wanted the favorable results of said commitment. We know this happens when we immediately regret a commitment. It’s a type of buyer’s remorse. Why did I say I was going on this diet? Why did I tell that person that I would meet them at the gym first thing in the morning? These feelings of regret are followed by a wave of confirmation bias. Our minds begin to search for any reason why our previous commitment or plan should be abandoned. Once we reach this stage, its only a matter of time until we find a very rational and reasonable way out of the commitment we regret making.
