Sentiment Kills Accountability

Why are people on our team? Is it because they are great at what they do? Is it because we like them? Hopefully both. What happens when people we like fail to contribute the way the team needs them to? Are our favorites held to the same level of accountability as those we are indifferent about? When we allow sentiment to rule our heads when accountability is necessary, we should appeal to outside opinions.
