Overextending

Teams discount the future by overextending themselves into a situation to achieve the best before they are ready. Overextending isn’t ever best, whether it’s a married couple that is house poor because they bought a house that was pushing their price range or a leader that demands more of an understaffed team than is sustainable. The problem with overextending is that the team ends up working harder to keep up with their high expectations than they need to. The short cuts and high demands cause the team to work harder without working smarter. The best we can achieve is only truly best when it is accomplished through best practices. Overextended budgets of time, money and bandwidth are never best practices.
