Settling for Effort

Who is keeping score? What items count as points? It’s easy when we play a sport and the team can point to the scoreboard to determine a win. What happens when the win isn’t that clear? Great teams can identify their win. It’s not enough to work hard. Working hard isn’t the goal. The goal is whatever the team considers a win. Teams can be distracted by their effort, as if effort is the win. As if getting out of bed and trying hard is a victory. The difference between a great team and an ordinary team is that a great team never settles for less than a win by saying that they worked hard. Hard work and busyness is never a substitute for the desired result. It is simply paving the road to a win.
