No Additional Trophy Needed
Participation trophies take a lot of ridicule these days. They are being cited as the cause for weak-minded individuals who can’t handle losing when they experience life outside the shelter of childhood. The truth is that people settled for mediocrity long before the concept of the 1990s “trophy” came to be. There are plenty of hard working millennials that reject the notion of settling for just participation. There are also plenty of fifty year olds looking for a hand out. The problem with the infamous trophy is that it falls short of the goal. The bar is set too low when trying is succeeding. The goal should be learning how to succeed. Perhaps we should give trophies out for learning from a failure…oh wait…that would just be a trophy for winning the next time you try. We are probably good then. No additional trophy necessary.
