The Distraction of Authority

Power struggles seem to disappear when teams are focused on a mission. I have been on teams when the team seemed more interested on fighting each other for influence over the team than the fighting against the team’s opponent. This power struggle is an indicator of a team or teammate that is off-mission. The purpose of being a part of the team is not to gain all of the authority. That would be a bit like pirates constantly fighting each other to become captain of a ship that never sails anywhere. Great teams focus their energy towards a common enemy and never towards fighting each other.
