Great teammates know how to support decisions that they don’t agree with. There are so many directions a team can take at any given time. It’s nice to think that consensus is necessary to move a team forward, but the reality is that it should be much more rare than some teams expect if the team is made of the necessary diversity to succeed. Everyone doesn’t have to agree before moving forward. Everyone does have to agree to support the decision made. My loyalty as a teammate is demonstrated not when I am agreeing, but when I don’t like a decision and still choose to belong. Choosing to belong is a choice teammates make at almost every fork in the road if the team is built the way that it should be.
