Time and Place

Being sentimental has its time and place. This is usually found in personal relationships that create meaningful memories that cause us to emotionally connect with others. We also do this with our pets. People often discourage the naming of an animal that will be eventually slaughtered. This is because naming it can cause it to carry extra sentimental value, therefore killing it will be more painful than it needs to be. We should take that same advice with our teams. When I say that, I do not mean the people on our teams because they are in fact people with names and value. Be sentimental with individuals and ruthlessly efficient with the system meant to serve them.
