Getting to the Circle of Trust
We don’t trust everyone. Our circle of trust is always small because trust and rapport take time. As we work with someone we get to know them. We decide if their strengths outweigh their liabilities. We learn when someone is dependable and when they are not. This is ultimately how we choose our team over time. It’s not in the first months of a hire or season. It’s the culmination of days, weeks, and years that builds our circle of trust. It’s best when it extends to the entire team, but that scenario would take a lot more time than most teams have together. The reality is that most teams are built with an amalgam of different levels of trust and friendship based on the tenure combinations of each teammate. It’s not how we like to think about it, but it’s closer to reality.
