Are we willing to take the hit?
Generosity isn’t only about money. We have other resources that we constantly manage. One of them is our reputation. Great teammates are generous with their reputation. They are willing to take the hit for another teammate because they know that often times it’s the right thing to do. It takes intention to be generous with our reputation. It means that we will own our mistakes. It means we will do what is right despite what others may think. Being generous with our reputation means never throwing another person “under the bus” to protect our own reputation. Great teammates must ask themselves if they are willing to take the hit for any decision they or the team makes. I am generous with my reputation when I acquiesce to a decision I disagree with privately and fully support it publically because it’s the team decision.
