Understanding Over Assumption

Identifying an opponent is always the first step. Opponents by nature are a threat to the team’s success. It is important to understand an opponent in order to defeat it. This is simple in sports because opposing teams can be scouted. In most other teams, the opponent is more difficult to identify and therefore harder to know well. When an opponent is a mindset, it is important to understand the affects that it has on people. When my opponent is a person, I must try to understand where that person is coming from. To do so does not mean agreeing with the opponent, but understanding them in a way that truly acknowledges why they are working against me. Our assumptions are an advantage to every one of our opponents.
