Self-control

When I work alone I can afford to make compromises because I am the only one who will suffer from the ramifications of those compromises. I can reason with myself to justify why I settled for less than my best. When I join a team, I have to exercise self-control at a higher level because my decisions affect my teammates. My consideration of my teammates is the best form of accountability. When I fail to exercise self-control, I am forcing my team to clean up after me and compensate for my lack of discipline. It’s the same principle that causes you to show up to the gym on a day you’d normally pass, simply because you don’t want to let down your workout partner.
